Wood, a renewable resource, burns completely in Seton boilers, providing clean heating and efficiency levels equal to fossil fuels. Simple in their construction and easy to operate, Seton boilers utilize technologies resulting from over thirty years of research and boiler manufacturing. Made in the USA, each Seton boiler is hand-assembled and pressure-tested. Available in three sizes suitable for a variety of home, business, and factory installations, Seton boilers are backed by a friendly customer service department, a knowledgeable technical service team, and a twenty-year warranty.Simple DesignUnder normal operating conditions, Seton boilers use no fans, fancy swirl chambers, or other gizmos that can break easily. They use the simple, natural draw of combustion, just like a wood stove. The air intake on the back of the boiler opens and closes to maintain a 160° F to 180° F water temperature to keep your home warm. Seton boilers look like and are operated similarly to a wood-burning stove, but they are quite different in the way they work. Namely, they utilize a huge refractory chamber. Four inches of this cement-like compound, which can withstand temperatures over 3600° F, surround the fire chamber on the sides and bottom and store heat—much like souped-up soapstone. It then radiates heat, causing firewood to undergo pyrolysis, a process by which solid materials are converted directly to gases. Traveling the long flame path to the top of the boiler, they mix and burn, producing temperatures around 2000° F and fully burning all of the wood. That’s why the exhaust exiting a Seton chimney is practically smokeless. Traditional wood stoves never achieve temperatures or the burning efficiency even close to that of the Seton.SafetyBecause Seton boilers reach temperatures around 2000° F, creosote burns right off, be-coming itself a fuel. Traditional wood-burning stoves (and most boilers) cannot achieve such high temperatures, so creosote is always present, posing a serious fire risk. Seton boilers, however, always remain relatively cool on the outside—thanks to space age insulation surrounding the entire firebox. In the case of power failure, the electronically controlled air intake and damper, which are spring-loaded, snap closed, cutting off the oxygen supply and instantaneously stopping  combustion.Down Draft Exhaust & Heat ExchangeThanks to the simple, common-sense design of the exhaust path and water flow through the heat exchanger of Seton boilers, heated water leaves from the hottest spot. Cool water is initially warmed by the exhaust approaching the flue. It flows up the water tubes within the exhaust path, warming more and more as it approaches closer and closer to the fire chamber. Then the heat exchanger tubes curve across the top of the boiler and carry the water to the location of the boiler’s highest temperature, allowing it to exit the boiler from the hottest spot. Other brands of boilers work just the opposite—go figure! No Heat is WastedAfter the water tubes have absorbed as much heat as possible, what little heat is left warms the air let in by the damper. The damper lets air into a series of stainless steel tubes that pass through the final portion of the exhaust path and then into the firebox. The incoming air is pre-heated so that no cold air is introduced to the fire chamber, saving heat energy and reducing the stack temperature to under 400° F. A simple design and no heat is wasted.Cleaning & MaintenanceCleaning is simple. About once a month you remove ash from the boiler, just shoveling it out as you would from a wood burning stove.…no removing doors, no pulling out trays, no poking and scraping in little burner tunnels. And the water tubes of the heat exchanger are essentially self-cleaning. Just once a year, at the end of the heating season, simply remove the side covers (which are screwed on) and brush off the heat exchanger tubes. That’s it—plain and simple.Firewood Made SimpleThe Seton boiler just loves unsplit wood—and so will you! No more sledge hammers, wedges, or log splitters. The Seton gasification design actually works best with big, solid logs. And, unlike other finicky gasification burners, the Seton handles a wide range of moisture levels. (Seasoned wood, of course, burns best.) And, if you are used to operating an outdoor wood boiler, find yourself a new hobby. On average, Seton boilers use 60% less wood than those smoke-belching behemoths.A Note on the Inventor: Fred SetonDuring the oil crunch of the 1970s, American inventor Fred Seton decided to build a more efficient wood boiler, guided by three goals: to protect the environment and preserve precious natural resources; to build a boiler that would last decades (not years or months in a “disposable” society); and to design a system both simple and highly efficient. The result was the Seton boiler, which is beginning its fourth decade of production. Fred’s ideas seem as practical and worthwhile today as they did three decades ago.  Fred never stops inventing—having just released this next-generation Seton boiler.$100 RebateAfter you purchase your Seton Wood Boiler, return warranty registration card (found on the first page of the owner's manual) to the Ohio Seton manufacturer and receive a $100 rebate. Must be completed within 60 days and include sales invoice. No gimmicks here...your boiler starts paying back right away!Heating that doesn’t cost the EarthWhile Seton boilers maximize the heat from every piece of wood, it is up to you to continue the cycle: return ashes to the soil, and replace the trees that you harvest. Thoughtful, sustainable, “green” heating—that doesn’t cost the Earth.Standard Equipment    • Taco 008 pump    • pressure gauge    • temperature gauge    • pressure relief valve    • temperature relief valve    • drain valve    • check valve    • fill valve    • air vent    • two aquastats    • expansion tank    • pipe fittings    • owner’s manual Sizing a Boiler in BTUs/hr.To figure out what size Seton Wood Boiler is best for you, go to www.heatload.com, where an online BTU/hr calculator will help you determine your heating requirements. Image two shows a view from the left with the door closed, as when operating. The third picture shows the back, illustrating the plumbing fixtures that are standard with all Seton boilers, including the W-90. The fourth photograph shows a side view with the two side panels removed. Here you can see the side of one of the four inch refractory walls, the heat exchanger extending from the top center to the middle of the back of the boiler, the loading door, and exhaust path, and the plumbing fixtures that are standard with the W-90 and all Seton boilers. The fifth image shows a view from just inside the door, looking up into the water tube heat exchanger. The refractory surrounds the firebox on all sides and bottom (six inches in the bottom with rebar reinforcement). Also visible in the fifth image are the air intake tubes. Image six shows the water tube heat exchange, which is pressure-tested for 24 hours prior to installation. Photo seven shows the firebox and refractory from above. This photo was taken at the factory during construction (this is actually the inside of a W-130, whose firebox is ten inches wider). The last image is a "How Seton Boilers Work" illustration.
